NCGA Congratulates Bruce Knight on Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Confirmation (8-7-06)
The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) congratulates Bruce Knight on his Senate confirmation last week as U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs.
“Corn growers have worked for many years with Bruce Knight, first at NCGA and then at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), ensuring a strong agriculture industry that maintains the highest standards,” said Gerald Tumbleson, NCGA president. “Throughout his career, Bruce has strived to achieve policies crafted through strong bipartisan support. NCGA looks forward to the continued relationship as he takes on this new position.”
Knight will oversee key USDA agencies, including the Grain Inspection and Packers and Stockyards Administration, the Agricultural Marketing Service, and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. In that role, Knight will also be the administration’s point man on national animal identification.
Prior to his current position as chief of the NRCS, Knight was NCGA’s vice president of public policy, where he directed NCGA's legislative and regulatory strategies.
NCGA joined numerous other agriculture groups in a letter to Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee Chairman Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), voicing the organization’s support of Knight’s nomination. To read the letter, click here. |
