NCGA Commences Corn Congress, Elects Corn Board Members (7-12-06)
The first session of the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) summer Corn Congress commenced in Washington, D.C., today, and first order of business was the ratification of Ron Litterer of Iowa as first vice president-elect and election of five members to the organization’s Corn Board.
The NCGA Corn Board chose Litterer as first vice president at its June meeting in Minnesota. He will officially become first vice president on Oct. 1, 2006. Today, Corn Congress, the NCGA delegate body, elected Cal Dalton of Wisconsin, Guy Davenport of North Carolina, Bob Dickey of Nebraska and Mark Schwiebert of Ohio to three-year terms and Gene Sandager of Minnesota to a one-year term vacated by Litterer.
“The slate of candidates was impressive, and NCGA is fortunate to have such growers putting their time and effort in to making NCGA the leading U.S. agricultural organization,” said NCGA President Gerald Tumbleson.
Delegates also descended on Capitol Hill to visit congressmen to discuss issues important to corn growers, such as the Water Resources Development Act, energy legislation and the farm bill.
“This Corn Congress gives our grower leaders an excellent opportunity to push the NCGA priorities to their respective representatives,” said Tumbleson. “Our association is well recognized on Capitol Hill and this also gives us a chance to say ‘thank you’ to our representatives who have worked so hard on behalf of corn growers.”
Corn Congress continues on Thursday. |
