NCYC Entrants with 300 Bushels Can Contact NCGA on Weekends with New Cell Phone Number (7-14-06)

The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) now has available a cell phone number for National Corn Yield Contest (NCYC) entrants to call on weekends when their entry fields top 300 bushels.

The phone number, 314-809-3311, is needed because there are two new rules to the 2006 NCYC.

A recheck will be required for initial yield checks of 235-299 bushels per acre. NCGA must be contacted by telephone and two new supervisors must be approved by NCGA. Last year the recheck kicked in at yields more than 225 bushels per acre, and the initial yield check supervisor could also be a recheck supervisor when initial yields did not exceed 250 bushels.

If the initial yield check is more than 300 bushels per acre, a recheck is required, and NCGA must be contacted by telephone. NCGA will assign two new supervisors. It is for the 300 bushel rule only that the cell phone number is needed.

“The cell phone number is available for those producers who are harvesting their entry fields on the weekends,” said Max Starbuck, NCGA director of production, stewardship and livestock. “The entrants do not have to wait until Monday morning to have supervisors assigned. Having the weekend phone number available will allow growers to continue their harvest on weekends with little delay.”

Starbuck also said NCGA has a supervisor training module available for those interested in becoming supervisors this fall.

“The people NCGA assigns will have completed the supervisor training module, which is a new requirement,” Starbuck said. “If anyone is interested in becoming a supervisor, please call the St. Louis office, and we will provide a Web site and password.”

The St. Louis office number is 636-733-9004.

All entries for the NCYC must be postmarked by Aug. 1. The fee is $105 for entries postmarked July 2 through Aug. 1. Entries postmarked after Aug. 1 will not be accepted.

Growers can register online or download an entry form from www.ncga.com. Contest rules also are available on the entry forms.

Growers can enter nine categories: A Non-irrigated; AA Non-irrigated; A No Till/Strip Till Non-irrigated; AA No Till/Strip Till Non-irrigated; No Till/Strip Till Irrigated; A Ridge Till Non-irrigated; AA Ridge Till Non-irrigated; Ridge Till Irrigated; and Irrigated.
