NCGA Corn Board Elects Ron Litterer as First Vice President (6-15-06)
The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Board elected Ron Litterer of Greene, Iowa, as its next first vice president. The election took place Wednesday at the NCGA Corn Board meeting in St. Paul, Minn.
"It is a privilege and an honor to be elected by the Corn Board and to serve corn growers,” he said, adding that the upcoming farm bill and market opportunities represent great potential for corn growers.
“This is really an exciting time for U.S. agriculture. Our energy needs represent a vast opportunity for all of agriculture,” Litterer said. “The dynamics of the marketplace will provide opportunities farmers have not seen in many years.”
Litterer is active in NCGA, having served on the NCGA Corn Board since 2004 and as current chairman of the NCGA Finance Committee. He is also member of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade for Feed, Grain and Oilseeds. Additionally, Litterer has been a member of NCGA’s ethanol task force and trade task force and active in the Iowa Corn Growers Association.
The next step for Litterer as first vice president-elect is to be ratified by the 126-member Corn Congress at its July 12-13 meeting in Washington, D.C. Ratification starts a three-year process of NCGA leadership. The first year is spent as first vice president, the second year is spent as NCGA president and in the third and final year, the elected grower serves as NCGA Corn Board chairman.
Current President Gerald Tumbleson will become chairman and current First Vice President Ken McCauley will become president on Oct. 1.
Litterer and his wife, Janice, have a hog operation and raise corn and soybeans. They have two daughters, Amy and Tracy.
