Timmons Aims to Contribute to Corn Growers’ Dialogue, Build Consensus (6-30-06)
If elected to the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Board, Bob Timmons hopes to contribute to the dialogue that among corn growers that makes NCGA a leading agricultural organization.
Timmons farms strip-till corn, no-till soybeans and conventional-till wheat with his brother Mike in Fredonia, Kan. At the national level, Bob has served on the Public Policy Action Team and the Joint Trade Policy A-Team. At the state level, he has served as secretary of the Kansas Corn Growers Association and chair of the Kansas Corn Commission.
He says he will be a team player, focusing on what is best for the organization. He believes NCGA has enabled growers to accomplish several things that individual states or growers could not achieve on their own. He thinks the organization has been professional in carrying out its responsibilities to its members.
“The whole organization works to promote corn,” he said. “I think overall NCGA is a professional organization that gets things done. I think it’s an organization that listens to its members.”
Bob says listening to others’ points of view and understanding why a person holds that position is important in a leadership position. In previous leadership positions, he believes listening to others’ views and reaching a consensus are his best attributes.
“We’re all unique and come from different areas,” said Timmons. “NCGA is open to everyone’s views; it doesn’t matter where you live. I hope to be able to contribute to that open dialogue.”
Delegates to NCGA’s Corn Congress July 12-13 in Washington, D.C., will vote on five new members for the Corn Board. |
