NCGA Joins Auto Industry CEOs in Calling for Renewable Fuels (5-18-06)

Leon Corzine, National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), joined the CEOs of Daimler Chrysler, Ford and General Motors today on Capitol Hill to tout the pivotal role alternative fuels like ethanol made from corn will play in diversifying America’s energy supplies and expressed their support for the “25 x 25 Initiative.”

The initiative envisions providing 25 percent of the nation’s transportation energy needs through renewable fuels by 2025. The groups also called for more production of flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs), as well as greater accessibility of E85 at the gas pumps across the nation.

“We are very pleased to hear the automakers support the renewable fuels effort, and corn growers will be there to once again be a pivotal part of the 25 x 25 initiative,” said Corzine. “The nation’s consumers are embracing the many benefits that come from using renewable fuels and FFVs.  Ethanol made from corn continues to lead the way in helping to wean this nation off their dangerous addiction to foreign oil. Corn growers will continue to fuel our nation with ethanol.”

NCGA has endorsed the “25 x 25 Initiative,” which includes a broad coalition featuring bipartisan political leaders, agriculture, industry and environmental representatives.

The 25 x 25 vision will have a wide range of benefits, including the reduction in the nation’s dependence on foreign oil, creating jobs in manufacturing and rural America and making our environment greener by reducing greenhouse gases and emissions.
