Dickey Will Use Corn Board Experience to Improve Corn Industry (5-26-06)

If re-elected to the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Board, Bob Dickey looks forward to using the experience he gained from his first-term as a Corn Board member in advancing the corn industry.

“I hope to bring a positive attitude and make a positive contribution to NCGA and corn growers,” Dickey said. “I really think NCGA is a great grassroots organization that addresses important issues.”

Dickey is a third-generation farmer in Laurel, Neb. He and his family produce corn and soybeans and raise cattle and hogs. He is the liaison to NCGA’s Production and Stewardship Action Team. He served as a Nebraska Corn Board member for 12 years in several capacities and has been involved with the Nebraska Farm Bureau and corn, soybean, cattle and pork associations.

Dickey says he has a passion for U.S. agriculture, particularly the corn industry, and has enjoyed the opportunities and challenges during his first term. He says he has developed his leadership skills thanks to service on the local, state, national and international levels, both in agriculture and non-agriculture capacities.

He believes a Corn Board member should be informed and knowledgeable on all policies and issues and must possess integrity, character and a vision. He says NCGA is a grassroots organization that addresses the needs of all corn growers.

“We had banner year last year, passing the energy bill and CAFTA-DR, and I was happy to be a part of that,” Dickey said. “Looking ahead, I feel we need to deal with transportation issues and the Water Resources Development Act and secure a good farm bill for corn growers.”

Delegates to NCGA’s Corn Congress July 13-14 in Washington, D.C., will vote on five new members for the Corn Board.
