Domestic natural gas exploration and development is one of the measures Congress is set to take up before the end of the lame duck session, and National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) issued a legislative “call to action” today, urging growers to make one last big push to ensure passage of the legislation.
Senate bill S.3711, known as the "Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act" – may come to the Senate for a vote in early December. The legislation would open up the outer continental shelf for drilling and alleviate the pressure of rising natural gas costs.
“We depend on natural gas in every part of our operations,” says NCGA President Ken McCauley. “From fertilizer, to irrigation, to drying our crops, to ethanol production - increased natural gas prices are already hurting corn growers. Exploration and drilling for new supplies is essential if we want to manage our input costs.”
Contact your Senators and Representatives now and urge them to vote for expanded natural gas production and lower input costs. To let Congress know you want lower energy prices, call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121.
