NCGA President McCauley Attends Governor’s Ethanol Coalition (10-4-06)

National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) President Ken McCauley touted the organization’s vision for 15 billion bushels of corn and 15 billion gallons of corn by 2015 at the Governor’s Ethanol Coalition meeting in Kansas City, Kan., this week.

“These meetings give NCGA the opportunity to spread our vision for the future of corn production,” said McCauley. “We are making sure a few naysayers do not dampen what we have accomplished or have started. Ethanol is growing at an accelerated pace, and I emphasized corn growers will meet the demand of that market and all markets. There is enough corn for ethanol, food, livestock and exports.”

The Governor’s Ethanol Coalition was formed in 1991 by Nebraska Gov. Ben Nelson in order to increase the use of ethanol-based fuels, to decrease the nation's dependence on imported energy resources, improve the environment and stimulate the national economy. Thirty-five governors, Puerto Rico, five countries and the Queensland province of Australia are members of the coalition.

McCauley also praised the governors for their commitment to rural development and value-added opportunities for farmers.

“Value-added opportunities and rural development are allowing rural communities to prosper once again,” McCauley said. “Our states are experiencing real gains in bringing businesses to the rural areas.”
