NCGA Honors Roach As Top Recruiter (2-5-07)
That National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) will recognize member Leslie Roach with the Hall of Fame Top Recruiter Award at this year’s NCGA’s Awards Banquet, held during Commodity Classic. Roach, of Wheatland, N.D., will be honored for his overall recruiting efforts which include more than 1,800 recruits and 7,500 total recruiting points in just the last five years.
“It’s simply a matter of committing yourself to something you believe in, and being willing to use your time,” said Roach, who does most of his recruiting work over the phone. It’s rewarding to be thanked for your efforts.”
In good years and bad, Roach spreads the news about corn to prospective members, but admits recruiting can be a little easier when the news is good. “It’s particularly exciting this year with the higher crop prices,” he noted.
Roach will receive a cash prize and a special award at this year’s Classic in Tampa, Fla. He has no intention of slowing down. “I talked to one of our members from Jamestown. He has two neighbors who’ve never planted corn before, but will this year. I’ll wait until (next) winter, after they’ve had a year’s experience with the crop, and ask them to sign up then.”
