NCGA Grower Leaders Meet to Discuss Priorities, Policies (1-12-07)
Discussions ranged from the growing use of ethanol to transportation issues as grower-leaders from state affiliates and corn checkoff and promotion boards of the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) began two days of meetings Thursday in St. Louis at the association’s Priority and Policy Conference.
The meetings are an important first step in the process of developing NCGA priorities for the 2008 fiscal year.
“Your role is to determine corn grower priorities and policies, making sure they complement and support each other,” NCGA President Ken McCauley told the attendees. “Collectively, you decide what NCGA’s priorities should be.”
In March, NCGA Corn Congress delegates will take up proposed resolutions at their meeting in Tampa, Fla, at Commodity Classic. Once the Congress sets priorities, NCGA will develop programs and budgets for the upcoming year.
The upcoming federal farm bill dominated the first day’s discussion, as delegates heard a report from Steve Pigg, chairman of the Public Policy Action Team. The meetings conclude Friday.
