Corn Board Candidate Nelson Seeks to Help Lead Industry in Dynamic Times (7-3-08)
The NCGA Corn Board election will be held July 16 at the Corn Congress meeting in Washington, D.C., This is the final candidate profile.
Dave Nelson, of Belmond, Iowa, a Corn Board member seeking re-election, also is a board member of the Renewable Fuels Association and the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association.
“It has been a great pleasure serving on the Corn Board in such dynamic times for the many checkoff and association members,” Nelson said. “We have had many wins for the corn farmer and will continue to represent the corn farmer better. I wish to continue on the Corn Board to represent all corn growers and keep them profitable.”
In addition to his association responsibilities, Nelson serves as chairman of Global Ethanol and farms 5,000 acres of corn (70 percent) and soybeans (30 percent) with his two brothers. He said he enjoys working to make the corn industry better and more rewarding and profitable for producers. Nelson believes Corn Board members should be able to represent all corn farmers nationwide, to the betterment of corn growing. He is the board’s liaison to the Production and Stewardship Action Team.
Nelson said he believes NCGA is a very well-designed organization, with individual members and the state affiliates each having something to contribute, whether it be perspective or funding. And this helps make it a more accountable organization.
Transportation is going to be a big issue in the years ahead, Nelson said, if re-elected he will also make a priority of defending the corn industry as a source of food and energy.
