Corn Board Candidate Glenn Would Focus on Grassroots, Provide Southeastern Viewpoint (6-13-08)
On each Friday leading up to the July 16 election at the Corn Congress meeting in Washington, D.C., the National Corn Growers Association will profile a Corn Board candidate. The profiles are provided in alphabetical order.
Don Glenn, of Hillsboro, Ala., is a member of NCGA’s Ethanol Committee and is a former board member and president of the Alabama Soybean and Corn Association.
“I would consider it both an honor and a privilege to serve on the Corn Board,” Glenn said. “If elected I will do my best to represent the grassroots of this organization because it is the grassroots that makes this organization great. The future looks bright for corn, but we still have work to do.”
Glenn said he believes corn growers are a diverse group of farmers from all regions of the country, and that the NCGA Corn Board should reflect that diversity. He offers a southeastern viewpoint that would be helpful to the board in understanding the needs of Southern farmers.
The candidate farms with his brother, raising corn, wheat and soybeans on 1,500 acres strictly as a family farm with no hired labor. They pride themselves on their conservation efforts and the operation is 100 percent no-till, Glenn said.
Corn Board members should act with the highest ethical, moral and professional standards as NCGA representatives and represent the association to the best of their ability, Glenn said. His priorities if elected to the board are to promote opportunities and profitability for corn farmers. |
