The Data Management Specialist role supports Soil Health Partnership’s on-farm research program by engineering and maintaining an efficient system for integrating and managing our diverse data across multiple sources, geographies and scales. These data include, but are not limited to, farm management and farm financial data, soil sampling results, aerial imagery and/or remotely sensed data, and precision agricultural data. The role has several major responsibilities:


  • Developing a relational geodatabase that integrates all data sources
  • Evaluating suitability of existing procedures and software platforms to support advanced geodatabase applications
  • Automating processes for data collection and integration
  • Developing and automating processes for timely data reporting and analysis for farmers and other partners  


This role reports to the SHP Lead Scientist.

  • Experience designing, maintaining, and optimizing relational geodatabases
  • Experience establishing, managing and optimizing databases for diverse user experiences and applications
  • Familiarity with analytics and extant and emerging platforms

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Master’s degree or PhD in Geography, Data Science or related discipline
  • Advanced technical skills in precision agricultural or geospatial data management, statistics, and information technology applications for data integration or agricultural data
  • Advanced skills in ESRI software or other geospatial analysis package
  • Advanced coding skills in Python, SQL and/or R


Desired Skills/Experience:


  • Working knowledge of field crop production, U.S. agricultural supply chains, and soil health practices and management systems
  • Agronomy training or experience, including understanding of nutrient use and application in agricultural systems
  • Research background
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong network of experts and knowledge of key organizations and resources in this space
