Jun. 13: E15 will race into the spotlight this weekend as Austin Dillon pilots the No. 33 American Ethanol car in NASCAR®’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. Pulling double duty as he attempts to make his second career Sprint Cup start in the American Ethanol Chevrolet, Dillon will look for victory while sporting the black and green colors of American Ethanol on Sunday and during the Nationwide Series race on Saturday in the AdvoCare/American Ethanol No. 3 car.
“Fans are going to love seeing American Ethanol on the car. We ran an American Ethanol paint scheme in Michigan last year, and it was really neat to get feedback from our fans. We went out to some camp sites during the race weekend, and the fans were really positive and excited,” Dillon said. “There are a lot of people that are passionate about NASCAR who have become really interested in ethanol and want to learn about it because they see it on the racetrack running well. It’s cool that I’m able to help show the benefits of a clean fuel that runs good.”
In addition, the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan will host a special event during which Dillon will meet with fuel retailers at the track. With the race as a backdrop, Dillon will discuss the seamless transition of E15 into the sport and the improved performance drivers have experienced since Sunoco Green E15 was introduced three years ago.
Farmers and representatives of Growth Energy will also engage with fans, educating them about the benefits of ethanol at a biofuels exhibit on the Midway and in the campgrounds surrounding the track. Replicas of the American Ethanol green flag used to start and restart races will be given out to supporters in the campground to display throughout the weekend.
“Michigan International Speedway has always been one of my favorite tracks,” said Dillon, who is currently fourth in the Nationwide points standings. “I think it will be even more exciting to race there in the Cup Series race given the recent repave the track has undergone."
In his role as a spokesman for American Ethanol Dillon, who races for Richard Childress Racing, brings a national attention to the environmental, job creation and energy security benefits of ethanol.
Launched by Growth Energy and the National Corn Growers Association, along with the support of other partners, American Ethanol is a breakthrough brand that seeks to expand consumer awareness of the benefits of ethanol and E15, and takes the NASCAR Green initiative to the next level. Since the program launch for the 2011 season, NASCAR drivers have run more than 4 million miles on renewable Sunoco Green E15.
Both races will be nationally televised. To catch the action from home, tune in to your local ABC affiliate at 1 pm Central and TNT Sunday at noon Central. To learn more about American Ethanol, click here.
