Members of the National Corn Growers Association’s Ethanol Action Team (ETHAT) gathered last week in Savannah, Ga. to review programs aimed at expanding demand for corn ethanol. “Our agenda covered topics from fuel dispenser infrastructure to sports marketing sponsorships,” commented ETHAT Chair Paul Jeschke. “However, discussions were unlike previous years due to excitement over the Trump administration’s stated support for the RFS.”
Chuck Studer of John Deere reported on the Ag Auto Ethanol Working Group’s latest efforts to find common ground on octane with automakers under the Trump Administration. We also heard from Senate staff that the Trump Administration has not abandoned their campaign promise to support the RFS and biofuels. The future economic impact of the RFS beyond 2022 was addressed by Marty Ruikka of PRX.
Mike O’Brien was on hand to share Growth Energy’s E15 branding research process. Growth expects to have results within a few weeks. Prime the Pump representative Lance Klatt from Minnoco presented examples of their efforts to promote E15 and higher ethanol blended fuels in local markets.
This year, ETHAT assumes responsibility for oversight of NCGA’s sports marketing programs. In addition to an update on NASCAR, the team heard about NCGA’s newly launched sponsorship with the Renewable Fuels Association of the Crappie Masters Tournament Trail.
ETHAT joined the Feed, Food and Industrial Action Team (FFIAT) and the Market Access Action Team (MAAT) for tours of local agricultural industry sites. The group visited the Haifa Group’s new controlled release fertilizer and the nation’s largest single container facility at the Port of Savannah’s Garden City terminal.
