Hodes Takes Helm as NCGA Director of Development

(Posted Tue. Nov 18th, 2014)

The National Corn Growers Association announces that Joe Hodes is the new director of development for the organization, stepping up from his role as marketing manager, where he has served for seven years. In this new role, he will oversee the organization’s development, industry relations, grassroots advocacy and membership service functions, including serving as staff lead for the Grower Services Action Team and the NCGA Agri-Industry Council.

“Joe has an outstanding track record during his seven years at NCGA,” said Fred Stemme, vice president, marketing. “We’re excited to see what the next chapter in his NCGA career will bring.”

In his career at NCGA, Hodes managed Leadership Academy, developed the Advanced Leadership training and the Corn Farmers Action Network grassroots programs and coordinated NCGA’s checkoff fundraising efforts. Prior to joining NCGA in 2007, he served as Development Manager at Grand Center, Inc., a non-profit organization leading efforts in revitalization of the Grand Center district in St. Louis. Hodes is a graduate of Saint Louis University and received his MBA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2009.

Hodes is replacing Tim Brackman, who is retiring from NCGA in mid-December and celebrates a long career in trade association service. Brackman’s legacy at NCGA includes, among others, serving as staff lead for the NCGA Grower Services Action Team, creating and cultivating the NCGA Agri-Industry Council and growing industry sponsorship of NCGA programs significantly.  Brackman obtained a journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and his career includes service at Pfizer, the American Optometric Association and the American Soybean Association.

“While I am personally very happy for Tim, we will certainly miss him at NCGA,” said Stemme. “His sage wisdom and advice has been invaluable the last nine years. Also, Tim’s personal network of ag industry contacts is simply unrivaled.”

Also this week, Rita Abney will join NCGA as the marketing administrative assistant in the St. Louis office. Abney, who recently served as a group sales manager for the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac, will support Hodes and others in projects related to development, state relations, membership, NASCAR and grassroots activism. She brings a wealth of experience in customer service, event and meeting planning, and budgeting and administrative duties, and is a native St. Louisan who has worked in hotels and meeting services for more than 15 years.
