The second video in a six-part miniseries debuts today at the National Corn Growers Association’s YouTube page, talking about the importance of biotechnology to corn farmers as they seek ways to help feed and fuel a growing world population.   “By the year 2050, we will need to have doubled our output for the food supply,” said Jim Zimmerman, chairman of NCGA’s Trade Policy and Biotechnology Action Team. “We know it’s going to take a lot more work, and we need to have the public understand what we’re doing and why we’re trying to do it.”   Zimmerman talks about how NCGA works with agribusiness on resistance issues, is involved in coalitions to educate the public,  like CommonGround and GMO Answers, and the connection to trade policy. A new six-part miniseries debuts today on the National Corn Growers Association’s YouTube page, with the first episode providing an up-close look at how corn growers are active in areas to promote the use of ethanol as a motor fuel.   “Ethanol has been an amazing success story,” said Jeff Sandborn, chair of the NCGA Ethanol Committee. “In less than a decade, we’ve transformed the fuel market. Ethanol has been a great boon for the rural economy.”   In addition to talking about how ethanol has helped farmers, Sandborn relates its importance to increasing energy security and clearing the air by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He also discusses the importance the Renewable Fuel Standard and explains why it should not be reduced.   “There’s no reason to reduce the growth (in renewable fuels),” he said. “There’s plenty of corn available.”   Click here to watch the video.
